Using Glycol Refrigerant in Hussmann Merchandisers

Hussmann’s laboratories test the concept, function, and reliability of each new product in accordance with ASHRAE guidelines, UL and NSF standards.

Our merchandisers are designed to operate in a controlled environment of 75°F (24°C) and less than 55% R.H. Merchandisers will not operate properly in environments of extreme temperature and humidity [above 75°F (24°C) and 55% relative humidity].

Laboratory testing provides guidelines for operating in an optimum environment. Adjustment is expected in actual store environments.

Settings in these tables should be the starting point when setting up a glycol refrigerant system, with adjustments to flow rate to compensate for external environmental effects such as:

  • ambient temperature
  • relative humidity
  • external air flow patterns
  • external heat sources (ovens, grills, etc. or direct sun)

Additional adjustment may be required

  • if shelves are added, moved, or removed
  • if the product load changes significantly
  • during heavy shopping seasons
