Principal Responsibilities
- Work with product engineering, marketing, manufacturing, Quality and others to capture functional requirements and design documents for electronic product controls and supported PC based applications.
- Develop/validate different sequence of operations, configurations and product specific algorithms for various Hussmann products applied in varying customer environments.
- Review/verify system level design and assemblies including components such as: sensors, wiring harnesses, enclosures, and power supplies.
- Analyze / Review design of application specific electronics including 3rd party components for system compatibility and regulatory compliance
- Coordinate with supplier and development partners to improve existing electronic designs for cost, quality and/or functional improvements
- Coordinate and perform application functional validations, component testing, analysis, and any design modifications/improvements
- Support the development of instructions, user manuals, technical notes, troubleshooting and testing documents for inclusion in product documentation
- Support the creation of procedures and instructions to aid in the manufacturing process
- Leverage internal and external technical experts to develop innovative ideas, match new technologies to markets needs and opportunities resulting in sustainable competitive advantage in our core and adjacent markets.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical, Mechanical Engineering or equivalent related field.
- Master’s Degree Preferred but not required
- Hands on experience with controls development and/or controls related application development/validations
- Engineer I: 0-2 years
- Engineer II: 2-5 years
- Engineer III: 5+ years
- Experience in equipment controls and/or other electronic systems.
- Strong hands-on mechanical and electrical aptitude to understand and troubleshoot the control systems and equipment interfaces.
- Knowledge and hands on experience with controls development in refrigeration or HVAC or other related industry.
- Experience in validating software operation in electronic equipment controls incorporating both application level and circuitry level analysis.
- Experience with electronic analysis methodologies, in using development/validation tool sets and associated instrumentation.
- Software development experience in electronic controls using C, C++ or PLC programming toolsets is a plus.
- Knowledge of controls networking protocols like CAN, BACnet, Modbus is a plus.
- Ability to function independently in a multi-task environment, as well as part of a team
