Controls Engineer

Principal Responsibilities

  1. Work with product engineering, marketing, manufacturing, Quality and others to capture functional requirements and design documents for electronic product controls and supported PC based applications.
  2. Develop/validate different sequence of operations, configurations and product specific algorithms for various Hussmann products applied in varying customer environments.
  3. Review/verify system level design and assemblies including components such as: sensors, wiring harnesses, enclosures, and power supplies.
  4. Analyze / Review design of application specific electronics including 3rd party components for system compatibility and regulatory compliance
  5. Coordinate with supplier and development partners to improve existing electronic designs for cost, quality and/or functional improvements
  6. Coordinate and perform application functional validations, component testing, analysis, and any design modifications/improvements
  7. Support the development of instructions, user manuals, technical notes, troubleshooting and testing documents for inclusion in product documentation
  8. Support the creation of procedures and instructions to aid in the manufacturing process
  9. Leverage internal and external technical experts to develop innovative ideas, match new technologies to markets needs and opportunities resulting in sustainable competitive advantage in our core and adjacent markets.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical, Mechanical Engineering or equivalent related field.
  • Master’s Degree Preferred but not required
  • Hands on experience with controls development and/or controls related application development/validations
    • Engineer I: 0-2 years 
    • Engineer II: 2-5 years
    • Engineer III: 5+ years 
  1. Experience in equipment controls and/or other electronic systems.
  2. Strong hands-on mechanical and electrical aptitude to understand and troubleshoot the control systems and equipment interfaces.
  3. Knowledge and hands on experience with controls development in refrigeration or HVAC or other related industry.
  4. Experience in validating software operation in electronic equipment controls incorporating both application level and circuitry level analysis.
  5. Experience with electronic analysis methodologies, in using development/validation tool sets and associated instrumentation.
  6. Software development experience in electronic controls using C, C++ or PLC programming toolsets is a plus.
  7. Knowledge of controls networking protocols like CAN, BACnet, Modbus is a plus.
  8. Ability to function independently in a multi-task environment, as well as part of a team
  9. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Innovative and problem-solving abilities.
