The Technical HVAC Engineer will be the subject matter expert on HVAC Systems.  Knowledgeable on strengths and weaknesses across competition and industry.  The Sales Specialist will accompany sales representatives to provide technical support, as well as be an advisor on industry and regulatory updates.  Will participate and influence customer design reviews (technical discussions on systems, installation, and design with customer’s engineers or consultants etc.). This individual will provide engineering, estimating, job walk surveys, prepare scope of work, commissioning, and planning services for HVAC systems to the Hussmann branch or distributors, including Hussmann Internal teams and departments. This individual will work to obtain strategic installing HVAC Contractors, and provide accurate HVAC schedules to the Sales/Order Entry Department.   Understand and be able to articulate the government regulations around HVAC design and usage, including the CARB and other regulations that meet California and Western State’s legislation.

  • Develop HVAC proposals including system design, ductwork sizing & design, and exhaust fan sizing, for presentation to customer based on preliminary site review and analysis of projects with customers, blueprints, specifications, proposals and other documents.
  • Responsible for full system design including selection of equipment (compressors, condensers, evaporator coils, condensing units, etc.). parts (oil systems, receivers, heat exchangers, etc.), controls and line sizing.
  • Heating and cooling load calculations for interior spaces as well as walk-in refrigerated boxes and storage facilities.
  • Determine customer need and work closely with customers to determine the most cost-effective and sellable solutions, thereby increasing and sustaining customer loyalty
  • Work with sales, customers, AE’s, drafters, and consulting engineering/architect groups to ensure proper system layouts and design of commercial HVAC systems
  • Provide and maintain planning and scheduling reports for all projects.
  • Ability to sit with customers and develop specifications while understanding the impact to Revenue and GP.  Responsible for the HVAC systems financial impact of assigned projects.
  • First point of engineering contact to assist field and customer service personnel in answering equipment application questions and resolve external customer issues with no management intervention.
  • Remain current with existing and emerging technologies in the industry. California Title 24 energy compliance documents preparation including Prescriptive, Performance and refrigeration Process compliance.
  • Working knowledge of local, state and national mechanical codes including UMC, IMC, CMC, NFPA, California Fire Code, California Energy Code, and California Green Building Code.
  • Serve as a mentor to new application engineers and help other departments better understand our designs.

Education & Experience:

  • BS in applicable Engineering field or Technical degree
  • P.E. Certification is preferred
  • 3-5 years’ combined engineering and/or technical sales experience which includes sales to dealers/distributors with standard products and pricing.  
  • Customer interfacing experience; individual needs to understand customer needs and decision-making processes.
  • Strong computer skills, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint and some working knowledge of AutoCAD systems. Background in Energy Pro Program specializing with Title 24 and Carb a plus.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills allowing individual to coach and collaborate with field sales engineers, engineering organization and customers.
  • 50-60% travel involved, some international travel might be required.
  • Ideal location for this position is based in California.
