As the Supplier Quality and Development Engineer, you will lead supplier On-Site Assessments and action planning/follow-up prior to source selection. You will lead supplier training and development activities. PPAP (production part approval process) for newly purchased components and major changes to existing components for commodities and/or product development programs as assigned. You will identify and lead projects to drive the external failure rates and internal defect rates down and lead projects to drive the external failure rates and internal defect rates down year over year for assigned components. You will report to the Chief Quality Officer.


  • Support Hussmann manufacturing plants and Supply Chain organization components and supplier quality needs as assigned. Active quality liaison and the main point of contact between suppliers, supply chain, operations, and design engineering when major quality problems exist that affect product quality
  • Monitor trends using various computer systems to identify systemic quality issues from Hussmann suppliers. Once identified you will lead efforts with the internal team and supplier team to find a root cause and corrective action that is sustainable using problem-solving methods (5Y, 8D, A3)
  • Lead data mining, collection, and consolidation of warranty data, to effectively assist in cost recovery efforts. Must work closely with Hussmann manufacturing plants, supply chain organization, and Strategic Sourcing Teams in this effort. Strong computer skills required to develop the data utilizing SQL, VBA, Dax in Power BI, and/or Alteryx
  • Develop key suppliers to meet Hussmann quality targets and plans. Actively engage the suppliers on a continual basis and conduct follow-up onsite or virtual assessments to ensure actions were taken to improve process and quality objectives. Assist suppliers with statistical analysis of process potential (Ppk) and process capability (Cpk) where necessary to improve performance
  • Review and approve (PPAP's) Production Part Approval Process for new purchase items, major changes to existing purchased items and/or in support of value analysis/value engineering
  • Support and assist suppliers to improve quality and reduce total cost per part by eliminating waste in the supply chain process
  • Maintain effective and professional relationships with managers and personnel at both supplier and customer locations
  • You will support the entire Hussmann business…all 7 manufacturing sites and corporate quality activities
  • Must be experienced and confident in a highly matrixed work environment


  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or related field
  • Master's Degree preferred
  • 10+ years experience in manufacturing, quality, or supplier quality engineering
  • Knowledge in the application of quality assurance concepts, methods and techniques is required
  • Applied knowledge in DFMEA, APQP, PPAP, MS Office required
  • Work with multiple computer programs and systems to effectively gather & interpret data which requires basic knowledge of SQL databases, visual basic application (Excel VBA), Dax in Power BI, and Alteryx. LSS, Refrigeration, NPI, ISO9001/14001, and Organizational Excellence experience is also preferred
  • You must effectively communicate with all levels of Hussmann management, manufacturing teams, and customers, in both written and verbal forms
  • Bi-lingual preference: English/Spanish
  • Independent travel to suppliers and Hussmann factories will average 35%, with occasional months of up to 75%
  • Can be self-managed when working in a virtual/remote team
  • Mobility is required to safely navigate construction sites and manufacturing facilities
  • You will be eligible for a hybrid-remote work schedule
